internships

Center for Sustainability Education, Engagement Intern - Carlisle, PA
As the Engagement Intern, I coordinated the annual campus-wide energy reduction competition. During this, I created sustainability campaigns and events for the start and finish of the energy challenge. I was tasked with recruiting and engaging new volunteers for the office as well as assisting with workshops, meetings and ongoing program maintenance. This internship has exposed me to event planning and delegation of tasks all while working as part of a larger, diverse team.

Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Human Resource Intern - Carlisle, PA
As the Human Resource Intern, I worked closely with the Director of the Human Resource Department. I created prospective employee files, read applications to determine qualification standards and conducted phone interviews with prospective employees to decide who to move through the hiring process. I maintained up-to-date personnel files for all current employees and published all salary-change letters for employees during the hospital merger. I assisted with new hire programming and attended management trainings. This internship allowed me to think critically about institution-based challenges and developments as well as develop my independence skills when working on larger projects.

Lowell General Hospital, Administrative Intern - Lowell, MA
Throughout this internship, I primarily shadowed the Chief Operating Officer of a community-based hospital. I shadowed Directors of Emergency & Urgent Care, Child & Maternal Health and Volunteer & Concierge Services. Most of my time was spent joining management and leadership trainings and attending meetings regarding policy changes. This internship allowed me to strengthen my leadership and professional skills by working first-hand with administrative staff and learning about team coordination.

research
Sadler Health Clinic, Student Researcher - Carlisle, PA
As a group of 10 student researchers, we administered Patient Activation Measurement surveys to assess patient understanding of select health conditions. Our target audience was individuals with Type II Diabetes and Hypertension. We conducted interviews with patients to acquire data regarding health behaviors. We ran tests to identify correlations between PAM scores and health behaviors and presented it in an in-depth report. Through this experience, I gained skills in both written and oral communication as well as time-management when navigating data collection in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Carlisle Area Development Corporation, Student Researcher - Carlisle PA
As a group of 5 student researchers, we created and administered an online survey for community partners involved in workforce development in the Carlisle area. Based on the data collected, we categorized organizations and services based on needs that were met within the community. In the end, an asset-map was created displaying Carlisle's workforce development as well as an in-depth report discussing areas of strengths and weaknesses for the Carlisle Borough. This project has allowed me to become a more effective team member while working on a complex, collaborative project.
